The Water and Power Department is the sole provider of water and electricity in Gilgit Baltistan. It has grown into a billion-dollar enterprise responsible for generating, transmitting, distributing, and supplying electricity to customers throughout Gilgit Baltistan. The main object of the organization is to represent and regulate on behalf of the government in all matters relating to the generation, transmission, supply, distribution, and regulations of power across the country. The largest caretaker, Water and Power Department is evolved to be a dynamic, and professional organization. It’s an emergent need to upgrade our performance as responsible gardeners in the growth and development of this nation. A strong source of equitable water supply generated electricity and other balancing services is a prerequisite for building social equity, fraternity, and national cohesion. However, the Water and Power department’s major mandate is to harness, transfer, distribute and supply electricity and cold water throughout the valley.
