Provincial Disaster Management Authority PDMA is a government organization that is responsible for coordinating and overseeing the response and recovery process during natural and man-made disasters. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority PDMA is an independent, autonomous, statutory body established by the Provincial Assembly of Punjab under the Disaster Management Act. PDMA is also registered with the UNDP as Non-Governmental Organization. One of its major functions is to plan and coordinate civil defense measures in case of emergencies. It has a tri-service command structure including the Pakistan Army, Pakistan Air Force, and Pakistan Navy. Its civil contingencies plans can be activated within 12 hours of an emergency. Recently, PDMA successfully coordinated the rescue and relief operations in the AJK earthquake. The PDMA acted as coordinator for international aid agencies that wished to assist with the relief efforts.
